Flop Office
A downloadable experience
Our immersive experience is integrated into the 'Flops ?!' exhibition at the Musée des Arts et Métiers (Museum of Arts and Crafts) in Paris. This exhibition tells, without judgment, the history of various technical and marketing failures that have occurred throughout our history. Our objective was to design an interactive augmented reality experience based on one or more objects from this exhibition, which visitors are able to play during their visit.

Flop Office is an absurd, narrative experience structured in three chapters: three virtual scenes and three physical windows. These allow us to observe what is inside, using a common thread: Charlie. Who is Charlie? Charlie is someone without gender, without a face, a simple silhouette—an identity-less office worker, in short, an average person. And this Charlie is stuck in a task that is going nowhere. We, as external users, can observe them without being noticed (of course) and act on their environment. Indeed, in every scene we see, there is an object from the exhibition, a 'flop-like' object. Taking advantage of the nature of each object, we will try to extricate Charlie from their repetitive daily life and make them leave the room in which they are trapped. Moving from scene to scene, will Charlie finally manage to escape, literally stepping out of the box to gain their freedom?

We decided to embrace the exhibition globally, firstly by replicating the set design based on cardboard boxes, and secondly by selecting three objects, each analogous to an object we use every day (phone, computer, smart speaker). Flop Office is here to question the way in which the tools of the working world, sometimes absurdly, shape our actions and routines.
